Jim James has shared another track ahead of the release of his new solo album.
Pairing warm harmonies with bright guitar tones, the soulful Lost Child was one of the first songs written for 'Wowed Out' and is the only track recorded outside the album's archival framework. It arrives alongside a video directed by Alabama-born, Nashville-based filmmaker Joshua Shoemaker. James said:
"A major theme in my life is feeling a little lost in a world I don’t understand. Most days I look at all the violence and hatred, and I can’t believe it’s happening — it’s like I wandered into the wrong dimension. Lost Child is another song where I’m asking for help to try to make sense of it all."
The song will appear alongside the previously shared title track and single Come Again on the My Morning Jacket frontman's first solo recording in eight years, due out via ATO Records this Friday (August 28).
The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter will headline a solo acoustic set at the annual Song Summit in Park City, Utah on release day, followed by several solo acoustic US shows later this year, billed as the Wowed Out Tour. Tickets are on sale now, with a portion of proceeds going to The Ally Coalition (TAC) and Arthur’s Earth Sanctuary.
He'll also perform a seven-night residency with My Morning Jacket at The Fillmore in San Francisco in October. The band released their latest studio album, 'Is', last year, followed by 'Peacelands', an "album of acoustic peaceful protest songs", in May.
