Dhani Harrison and Nigel Godrich have teamed up for a new project, Dragonflies.

The former is known for his own acclaimed musical career, film and television scoring, and collaborations with thenewno2 and Fistful of Mercy, while the latter is a renowned producer, known for his work with Radiohead, Beck, and IDLES, as well as founding Atoms for Peace and Ultraísta.

The pair's working relationship began when Harrison contacted Godrich for advice on what became his 2023 LP 'Innerstanding'. "It's like one person throwing something in the air and the other person catching it," said Godrich about their musical connection.

Stepping out of their respective comfort zones, Harrison moved from behind the computer and became the singer and guitarist. Meanwhile, Godrich worked on the music in real time. "He's a machine," said Harrison. "He has strong opinions about what he wants to hear, and for me it's very humbling. That's why it's such a new experience."

The duo will release the self-titled debut Dragonflies album on September 18 via Dark Horse Records/BMG. Alongside the announcement of the record, they've shared its majestic and genre-defying opening track Slower, which arrives with a video directed by RUFFMERCY, a Bristol-based animator and music video director known for his work with Nirvana, Earl Sweatshirt, The Chemical Brothers, Nas, and Run the Jewels.

Why the name Dragonflies? Harrison explained: "Dragonflies are a symbol of spiritual enlightenment,. When Nigel suggested the name I was like, yeah, sold, done. Whenever I see a dragonfly, it's magical."
