Anna Calvi has shared the title track of her upcoming duets EP.
Is This All There Is? is a reflective synth-rock offering that features The National frontman Matt Berninger (pictured). It was originally written by Calvi for the 2021 Joana Hogg film The Souvenir Part II, though it was never released. Calvi said:
"This song is about the bravery it takes to hope. It’s the willingness to ask questions, even when knowing you’ll never get a definitive answer."
About collaborating with Berninger, she added: "The tone of Matt’s voice has such an epic, almost ancient quality to it, which felt perfect for a song asking such a big existential question.
"We’re both searching for answers- together and yet somehow always apart, which I find beautiful. He brings an intimacy to the song that I couldn’t have imagined."
The BRIT and Mercury Prize-nominated British artist previously teased 'Is This All There Is?', due out via Domino this Friday (March 20), with her cover of Bonnie "Prince" Billy's I See A Darkness featuring Perfume Genius and God's Lonely Man with Iggy Pop.
The EP is the first part of a trilogy exploring how identity can change, especially through falling in love, inspired by Calvi's own experience of becoming a parent.
Calvi also contributed a song titled Sunday Light featuring Wolf Alice's Ellie Rowsell, Nilüfer Yanya and Dove Ellis to the War Child collaborative charity album 'HELP(2)', which dropped earlier this month via War Child Records.
The singer-songwriter will appear at this summer's sold-out Green Man festival in Wales in August.
