Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi has announced his first solo album since 2005. 

'From The Dark' is set for release through BMG on October 23, with the announcement arriving alongside the first single, World Alone, a heavy rock track built around the guitarist's signature riffs and solos, with powerful vocals from Norway's Jørn Lande.

Lande, who has writing credits on every song, appears throughout the album alongside bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil, while Iommi co-produced the album with longtime creative partner, co-writer and audio engineer Mike Exeter.

Iommi said: "It's an album we've really enjoyed making. We're not trying to prove anything - it's a great album, it rocks!"

The rock icon's last studio album was Black Sabbath's farewell album, 2013's '13', which followed 2012's 'WhoCares', his project with Ian Gillan and a bunch of special guests. His latest solo LP, though, is 2005's 'Fused'. Last year, he appeared on Robbie Williams' single Rocket, the opening track from his album 'BRITPOP', released in January.

Last summer, Black Sabbath, completed by Geezer Butler, Bill Ward and the late Ozzy Osbourne, reunited for Ozzy's final live performance at Birmingham’s Villa Park, 17 days after which he passed away. The Back To The Beginning benefit show featured tributes from rock and metal royalty, including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and Anthrax.
