Dawn Richard has announced a new album.

The New Orleans multidisciplinary artist will release 'Creole Culture' through Merge Records on October 9, marking her first solo LP in five years, completing a trilogy that includes 2021's 'Second Line: An Electro Revival' and 2019's 'New Breed', which explored New Orleans culture in different ways. Richard explained:

"Creole Culture is my way of saying that New Orleans culture doesn’t have to live in the past to be authentic. It can be progressive. It can be global. It can be pop culture. It can look like me."

The album will include her earlier single, baby, can we? featuring Durand Bernarr, and the newly shared enough, which pairs her soulful vocals with smooth, electronic production. Richard described the track as being, "about unlearning the lie that your value has to be earned. Sometimes the greatest act of resistance is believing you were always worthy."

Other collaborators on the album include Big Freedia on the opening track A Creole Culture Intro, Anjelika "Jelly" Joseph on Chuuuuurch, Frank Richard of Chocolate Milk on Groove City and Tarriona "Tank" Ball on L V R .

Richard has spent the years since her last album collaborating with Spencer Zahn and Joseph Shabason on two albums, 2024's 'Quiet In a World Full of Noise' and 2022's 'Pigments'. She also released Broken Hearted Sade, a Sade tribute track with Toronto saxophonist Joseph Shabason, last year.

Richard will play Northalsted Market Days in Chicago this weekend before shows in New Orleans and New York this fall.
