Oprah Winfrey is a talk show host, actress, media mogul and philanthropist from Kosciusko, Mississippi.

Starting her career in media in the early 1970s, she shot to global fame in 1986 with the launch of The Oprah Winfrey Show, a syndicated daytime talk show that is indisputably one of the most influential programs in American television history. Known for its mix of intimate interviews, book discussions, self-help themes and celebrity appearances, the show earned Winfrey numerous accolades and a dedicated global following.

Following the end of the show in 2011, she transitioned into broader media ventures, founding the cable channel Oprah Winfrey Network, producing award-winning film and television projects through her company Harpo Productions, and appearing on-screen in films such as The Color Purple (1985), Beloved (1998), Selma (2014) and A Wrinkle in Time (2018), to name just a few of her endeavours across her remarkable career.

She is also a prominent figure in publishing, having launched O Magazine in 2000 and running Oprah's Book Club since 1996, regularly turning featured titles into bestsellers. She is also known for her philanthropy, particularly in education, and founded the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa in 2007.

She has received countless awards and honours over the course of her career, including the Presidential Medal Of Freedom, an Academy Award nomination, an induction into the Television Hall Of Fame, and countless Emmy wins. She is widely regarded as one of the most influential women in the world, and was the first Black woman to become a self-made billionaire.
