Ritchie Blackmore, was the guitarist and driving force behind the classic rock band's Deep Purple and Rainbow.

Deep Purple was formed in 1968, and is considered one of the pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock. They had several lineup changes, including founding member Ritchie Blackmore, between 1968 -1975, and 1984-1993. The band continues to this day with Ian Paice, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Steve Morse, and Don Airey, and has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.

Rainbow, formed in 1975, the band had a variety of line-up's, with Blackmore as the only consistent member. The band has sold over 28 million albums worldwide, had hit singles, such as All Night Long, and Since You Been Gone, and were ranked No. 90 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. The band disbanded in 1984, only to reform again between 1993-1997.
