Liverpool Football Club was formed in 1892 following a dispute between the directors of neighbouring club Everton and its president, John Houlding, who owned the club's ground, Anfield. The disagreement over rent resulted in Everton moving to Goodison Park, leaving Houlding with an empty stadium. Thus, Liverpool Football Club was born.

This sharp divide between Liverpool and Everton splits the city of Liverpool during the football season into "the Reds" and "the Blues", with the two clubs' home grounds having less than a mile between them.

The Merseyside Derby and the local rivalry between Liverpool and Everton truly is like no other, though Liverpool's rivalry with Manchester United Football Club is one of the oldest and fiercest in football.

Liverpool FC have won multiple major trophies, including 19 League titles, eight FA Cups, a record nine League Cups and 16 FA Community Shields. Since 1964, they have won 14 European and Worldwide trophies, more than any other British club.
