Jay-Z—real name Shawn Carter—is a rapper, songwriter, producer and entrepreneur from Brooklyn, New York.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in hip hop history, he rose to prominence in the mid-1990s, going on to build a vast business empire that includes the Roc Nation entertainment agency, the Tidal streaming service and multiple high-profile luxury brands. With a seemingly endless list of achievements to his name, he was the first hip hop artist to headline Glastonbury, was named the greatest rapper of all time by Billboard and Vibe in 2023 and, at the time of writing, is the wealthiest musical artist in history.

A 25-time Grammy winner, he's dropped 13 solo studio albums to date, along with several collaborative projects such as 'Watch the Throne' with Kanye West and 'Everything Is Love' with his wife, Beyoncé, as well as releases with the likes of Linkin Park, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys and Pharrell Williams.

He has also served as producer for several television programs, films and stage productions, and has won two Emmys and received a Tony nomination for the musical Fela!.
